One Call Property Services Receives EPA Certification

Stuart, Florida based One Call Property Services has received lead-based painting certification from the Environmental Protection Agency to conduct lead-based paint renovation, repair and painting activities in target housing and child-occupied facilities. EPA Lead-safe certified contractor logo

The certification applies specifically to Section 402 of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), which applies to paid contractors working in pre-1978 housing, child care facilities and schools with lead-based paint. Contractors include home improvement contractors, maintenance workers in multi-family housing, painters and other specialty trades. The covered facilities include residential, public or commercial buildings where children under age six are present on a regular basis as well as all rental housing.

The Lead: Renovation, Repair and Painting rule (LRRP) applies to homes constructed before 1978 when lead paint was banned. Its opt-out provision, which expired July 6, let consumers allow contractors to bypass extra preparation, clean-up and record keeping requirements in homes where there were no children under 6 or pregnant women, thus avoiding additional costs.

Remodeling contractors estimates that the additional costs associated with the lead-safe work practices average about $2,400, but vary according to the size and type of job.

Lead poisoning is one of the most serious environmental health hazards to children, particularly for children under the age of six. Elevated blood lead levels can impair a young child's mental and physical development. Adults exposed to high levels of lead, usually in the workplace, are also at risk.

Homes built before 1978 may contain lead-based paint and may pose a hazard if paint chips or lead-contaminated dust or soil is inhaled or ingested.

The EPA and other state, federal, and local agencies are working to protect children from exposure to lead-based paint. EPA seeks to reduce and, ultimately, to prevent lead poisoning through outreach and education, along with compliance assistance and enforcement of Federal lead laws.

One Call Property Services, headquartered in Stuart, Florida is a certified state-licensed general contractor, a Treasure Coast Builders Association Builder (TCBA) member, and a national award-winning company in renovation construction and property management.
